15th Annual STAR Track Meet Celebrates All Athletes

More than 160 athletes participated in the Comal Independent School District’s 15th annual district-wide Specialized Training in Athletics and Recreation (STAR) Track and Field meet April 25 at Canyon High.

From sixth graders to high school seniors, these athletes represented Comal ISD’s STAR Track and Field Sports programs from nine campuses including Church Hill Middle, Canyon Middle, Mountain Valley Middle, Spring Branch Middle, Danville Middle, Pieper Ranch Middle, Canyon High, Canyon Lake High and Smithson Valley High.

Field events for these athletes include a Frisbee throw, shot put, standing long jump and running long jump while running events include the 100-meter dash, 50-meter dash and baton relay.

Student volunteers play a big role in the success of this annual meet with high school students involved in leadership programs participating. These leadership programs include Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS), PALS, JROTC and more.

The STAR Track meet rotates every year to a different high school in the district with Smithson Valley High scheduled to host the 2020 meet.

“The Comal STAR Track Program is committed to providing athletes the opportunity to excel within the athletic-recreation arena by providing a track program that is a combination of hard work and encouragement,” said Terry Werchan who is certified adapted physical education and the head STAR coach.

Congratulations to all of this year’s STAR athletes!
