December 19, 2025 - Six Comal ISD students are receiving the Valero Alamo Bowl Student-Athlete Scholarship, a $7,500 award each. Additionally, they will be recognized on the field during the first quarter of the 33rd Annual Valero Alamo Bowl game Dec. 30.
The six seniors represent each of the district’s five comprehensive high schools and include Maia Aldrich from Canyon High, Chloe Gray from Canyon Lake High, Kara Kirkpatrick from Davenport High, Owen Smith and Andrew Grinestaff from Pieper High and Cyanna Cavazos from Smithson Valley High.
This year, the Valero Alamo Bowl’s scholarship program is awarding $1.25 million to 182 deserving students representing every San Antonio area high school and four-year university with $765,000 going to 102 high school seniors. This amount is the largest local scholarship total among the 40 plus bowl games.
The scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, teacher/coach recommendations, involvement in extracurricular activities, and varsity sports as well as honors received and a personal narrative. It is mandatory that each applicant have a least one varsity athletic letter from their school sponsored sport.
